This disc has all of the essential Duke Ellington classics. Duke Ellington’s debut, ‘Sophisticated Lady’, does not fit easily into one genre. There is no doubt that Duke Ellington has talent. Such great and happy songs.
Never No Lament - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Once Take The ‘A’ Train gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Just A-Settin’ And A-Rockin’ one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. I Got It Bad And That Ain’t Good - A nice song. When I listen to Chelsea Bridge in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Perdido - Check out that bassline! The ‘C’ Jam Blues (2:42) - awsome. Prelude To A Kiss good vocals. Caravan - For me, this is the best of the album.
